Strategy

Wallet Style
Single Card One card that performs well across all your spending — simple to manage, great for most people.

Multi-Card Routes each spending category to the card with the highest bonus rate. Typically earns 20–40% more annually, but requires a little more wallet management.
Reward Preference
Cash Back Simpler and more flexible — every dollar comes back as real money. Best if you rarely travel or prefer straightforward rewards.

Travel Transferable points are typically worth 2–5x more for flights and hotels than cash back. Best if you travel even occasionally.
Card Usage
Personal Recommends consumer cards available to anyone. Best if you don't have a business.

Business Recommends small business cards, which often have higher earning rates. Even a side hustle or freelance work qualifies.

Spending
The more accurately you estimate your spending, the better your recommendations. Rough estimates are fine — you can always come back and refine them. We multiply monthly amounts by 12 for our calculations.

Groceries
Supermarkets only — Kroger, Publix, Trader Joe's, Wegmans etc. Costco, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart go under Shopping below since they code differently for card rewards.

If you shop at Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh, tap the arrow to break it out separately — it codes as Amazon, not groceries, so some cards earn very differently there.

Travel Preferences
Transferable points are typically worth 2–5x more than cash back when redeemed for flights and hotels — and the value jumps significantly for business and first class airline seats. If you travel even occasionally, optimizing for transferable points usually wins. Your preferences here help us match cards whose transfer partners, airline bonuses, hotel programs, and rental benefits best fit your travel style.

Preferred Airlines
Your preferred airlines determine which card transfer partners matter most to you. For example, if you fly Delta, both Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards transfer to Delta SkyMiles — knowing this helps us prioritize the card that earns you the most miles per dollar on your actual flights.
Lounge Access
Premium cards like Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Capital One Venture X include airport lounge access — a benefit worth $300–$500/yr for frequent travelers.

If lounge access matters to you, we'll factor it into your recommendations and weight cards that include it more heavily.
Preferred Hotel Programs
Credit cards earn points that transfer directly to hotel loyalty programs — often at a 1:1 ratio. For example, Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to World of Hyatt, and Amex Membership Rewards transfer to Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy.

We list hotels by loyalty program name rather than individual brand because that's how card transfer partners are structured — knowing your preferred programs helps us match you with the cards that earn the most value for where you actually stay.
Preferred Car Rental
Some premium cards bonus points at specific rental companies, and many include complimentary rental insurance — primary coverage on cards like Chase Sapphire Reserve, secondary on most others.

Knowing your preferred rental company helps us match cards that give you the most rewards and the best insurance coverage when you rent.
